Tuesday afternoon, August 26, 2008, 15 year old Cadet
Lydia Fairchild from the Owego NY Composite Squadron, will arrive back home,
from what in her own words; "was a life-changing missions trip to Alaska".
Along with her proud parents and friends, some of the cadets and officers of
the Owego NY Civil Air Patrol Composite Squadron will be present to greet
her arrival.
Lydia, of Endicott NY, was part of a summer internship/ mission program at
Kingdom Air Corp, based North-East of Anchorage Alaska. Cadet Tech-Sergeant
Fairchild is preparing to become a
missionary pilot. Her goal this summer was to complete flight training
and be ready to solo fly when she turns 16 this October. Along with her
ground and air training which included mountain flying, she also helped with
Kingdom Air Corp's airplane maintenance duties on its 12 airplanes. 2 weeks
before her return, Lydia flew approximately 1000 miles north, to spend 7
days in the Arctic circle assisting with children's Bible camps, Not only
was she able to gain an understanding Eskimo culture, she learned first-hand
what life in a remote mission field would be like.
From a look at Lydia's blog entries and her jet-lagged
but heartfelt comments, the summer was a huge success.
